Ogallala Great Race Celebration

Ogallala Mayor Darrell "Buck "Bassett receives a commemorative golden spike from Union Pacific Director - Public Affairs Kelli O'Brien

Ogallala is located on the original transcontinental railroad line, first reached during construction on May 24, 1867. To commemorate Ogallala's role and the 150th anniversary of this momentous achievement, Union Pacific presented a commemorative Golden Spike to the city during the opening ceremonies of the 33rd Annual Ogallala Indian Summer Rendezvous Festival on Sept. 21, 2017.

In addition, you're invited to view The Great Race to Promontory Exhibit at the Ogallala/Keith County Chamber of Commerce, 119 E 2nd St. The exhibit tells the story of the building of the transcontinental railroad and how it changed our country.
