Suspension of Issuance of Future Permits for Grain Shuttles
Announcement Number: BU2024-43
Categories: Grain
Posted Date: October 12, 2024
This morning, Union Pacific was notified by FXE of a derailment occurring south of Eagle Pass. Given the high volume of ag unit train volume in the pipeline and additional volume forecasted over the next week, Union Pacific and FXE have decided to suspend issuance of future permits for the active FXE embargos (FXE001924 and FXE002024). This suspension is effective immediately and will remain in effect until the current train lineup is cleared and trains are able to launch upon release.
Ag unit trains currently at loading facilities, or with a next trip forecast for Eagle Pass or El Paso destinations, may utilize the permitting process for a trip to Mexico. All empty trains returning for loading planning the next trip for Eagle Pass or El Paso destinations, without a trip in the current forecast, will be required to find an alternative destination. We expect to accept new forecasts for Eagle Pass and El Paso in approximately seven days. If a unit train laydown is requested by the customer, all applicable tariff charges will apply.
Union Pacific’s network is healthy and positioned well to handle harvest volumes.
