To Our Customers,
Effective February 11, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. CT, Union Pacific will upgrade Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) requirements from version 8030 to version 8050 for several inter-carrier transaction sets. This change is being made in conjunction with Railinc’s Forward and Store EDI upgrade to version 8050 that is coordinated within the railroad industry.
The major changes that may impact Union Pacific customers or third-party shippers include the following:
- 417s (waybill copies) received from Union Pacific will be sent with version 8050 in the header(s) beginning on February 11, 2025.
- Union Pacific is implementing a new requirement that all loaded Bills of Lading (BOLs/404s) must include a weight in the N7 segment. This requirement is in conjunction with the new 8050 industry requirement on 417s.
Customers who tender 404s to Union Pacific are not required to upgrade their EDI version, but our new weight requirement on loaded billing will be applied during our validation process. Please adjust for the new requirement of providing weights prior to the effective date in order to process messages without disruption.
If you have any questions, please send an email to our Customer Care & Support EDI Team.
