Interline service changes to eastbound intermodal traffic handled by UP and NS

Announcement Number: IM2018-389
Categories: All Intermodal
Posted Date: December 6, 2018

Dear Premium Intermodal Customers,

Union Pacific and Norfolk Southern have been working collaboratively on an initiative to optimize our interline network.  The primary purpose of the initiative is to provide our mutual customers a safe, reliable and efficient service product.  In order to improve reliability while reducing complexity, we will increase steel-wheel interchange and close a number of small volume interline lanes.

Domestic Intermodal:

Due to the scope of the changes, we are providing a matrix to assist you in identifying any effects to your interline business.  Please note that a portion of these lanes will be closed effective January 8, 2019 and the remainder on February 5, 2019.

Traffic will be accepted until midnight prior to the effective date (e.g. January 7, 2019 and February 4, 2019, respectively).  Any waybills for units that have not been ingated prior to the effective date will be expired from our system.

International Intermodal:

Similarly, we are providing a separate matrix to assist you in identifying any effects to your interline business.  Please note that these lanes will be closed effective February 5, 2019.  Any waybills for units that have not been ingated at ICTF or Seattle prior to the effective date (e.g. February 4, 2019) will be expired from our system.  Any waybills for units that have not been released from on-dock marine terminals prior to the effective date will be expired from our system.

Union Pacific and Norfolk Southern continue to collaborate on other interline initiatives and will communicate any other changes in the near future.

Sincerely,

Premium Marketing and Sales
