Dear Premium Customer,
Earlier this year, Union Pacific notified active UIIA drivers of a change to the carriage bolt policy for 13 of our intermodal terminals. The following information serves as a wider notice and reminder of the carriage bolt policy that became effective on May 1, 2020.
As a reminder, carriage bolts are required on all loads ingating at the following terminals:
- Brooklyn, OR
- Lathrop, CA
- Oakland, CA
- SLCIT, UT
- Global 2, IL
- Global 4, IL
- Mesquite, TX
- ICTF, CA
- LATC, CA
- City of Industry, CA
- Los Angeles, CA
- Laredo, TX
- Dupo, IL
Please ensure all drivers are adhering to this policy. Detailed ingate procedures are outlined below.
INGATE (TRADITIONAL GATE OPERATIONS)
- Loads are required to have a seal applied prior to ingate. It is highly recommended, although not required, that loads be equipped with a high security seal.
- Units arriving at ramps for ingate processing will be checked for seals by gate inspectors. The seal number on the box will be verified against the number showing on the waybill. If the numbers match, the seal number will be recorded in the van arrival screen and produced on the J-1.
- If the seal number on the box does not match with the seal number on the billing and/or cartage slip, the actual seal number on the box will be recorded in the van arrival screen and produced on the J-1.
- If a loaded unit with proper billing does not have a seal prior to ingate, it will be rejected.
- In addition to customer seals, drivers are REQUIRED to apply a carriage bolt to all loads prior to completion of ingate processing.
INGATE (AGS GATE OPERATIONS)
- Loads are required to have a seal applied prior to ingate. It is high recommended, although not required, that loads be equipped with a high security seal.
- Driver will input the seal number at the AGS gate stand.
- If a loaded unit with proper billing does not have a seal prior to ingate, it will be rejected at time of ingate.
- In addition to customer seals, drivers are REQUIRED to apply a carriage bolt to all loads prior to completion of ingate processing.
