To Our Premium Intermodal Customers:

Over the past few years, Union Pacific has modernized and invested significant capital in our domestic intermodal terminals in the Los Angeles metro. These investments have paved the way for volume growth and a more seamless driver experience at each of our Union Pacific Intermodal terminals. We are also approaching one year of operation at our Inland Empire Intermodal Terminal (IEIT), which is strategically positioned to capitalize on the robust activity taking place in this region of Southern California. As we look ahead, our commitment to investing in our intermodal network and streamlining our operations through Southern California remains focused and strong.

As part of our efforts to streamline operations, Union Pacific will be implementing service plan changes that simplify our network, reduce inefficiencies, and drive service improvement from in-gate to out-gate.

Near the end of June, and through the first two weeks in July, the following Intermodal terminal changes will be implemented:

  • East Los Angeles will become the hub for Mesquite, Texas shipments as well as all Southeast U.S. points on CSX and NS
  • LATC will continue to serve Northern California, PNW points and will also originate Chicago interchange shipments as well as Chicago local shipments destined to Global 1
  • City of Industry and IEIT will continue to serve the local Chicago market via Global 4
  • ICTF will continue to serve all other domestic markets and add the following: Denver, Salt Lake City, and Twin Cities (TCIT)

We are excited to move forward with these changes which will optimize Union Pacific’s physical footprint in Southern California and provide a more consistent and reliable service product to the market while expanding capacity for growth with all customers. We will provide an additional update including last ingate days and times by ramp and lane well in advance of the first cutover.
