UMAX Per Diem Policy - Restructuring

Dear Intermodal Customer:
Union Pacific is pleased to announce a restructuring of the UMAX Per Diem Policy that governs charges for equipment usage. Effective April 1, 2012 UMAX per diem will no longer be bundled in line haul pricing but instead will be billed based on daily usage charges. Effective April 1st UMAX line haul rates will be adjusted to exclude bundled equipment per diem and customers will begin paying equipment charges based solely on actual use days. Units waybilled on or after April 1st will be subject to the new rates and per diem charges.
Additional details describing the new Per Diem Policy will be posted on the REZ-1 policy section within ChannelSpeed. Highlights of the new Program rules are summarized below:
Per Diem at Origin (Reservation Empty/Street Interchange to Ingate Load/Street Interchange)
- If the reservation is set to expire on the same day or the next day from the create date, the Per Diem clock at origin will begin 12 hours from the time the reservation was created or when the unit is out-gated empty, whichever comes first.
- If the reservation is set to expire on the third day from the creation date, the Per Diem clock at origin will begin 24 hours from the time the reservation was created or when the unit is out-gated empty, whichever comes first.
- If the reservation is set to expire on the fourth day from the creation date, the Per Diem clock at origin will begin 48 hours from the time the reservation was created or when the unit is out-gated empty, whichever comes first.
- In the case of a street interchange, the Per Diem clock at origin will begin when the street interchange is performed.
- The Per Diem clock at origin stops when the unit is returned to the ramp or when a street interchange has been performed.
Per Diem at Destination (Notification to Empty Return/Ingate Load/Street Interchange)
- The Per Diem clock at destination will begin accruing upon notification.
- Per Diem at destination stops accruing when the unit is returned to the ramp (loaded or empty) or when a street interchange has been performed.
- Per Diem charges will accrue based on the following schedule:
- Days 1 - 10 $20/day
- Days 11 - 30 $50/day
- Days 31 + $100/day
