Dear Intermodal Customer,

Union Pacific as carrier handling freight moving from Mexico via Laredo,TX, is required to make shipments available for inspection when requested by US Customs. Historically, applicable charges have been billed to the involved Customs broker. Beginning July 1, 2013 the process will change and charges will become the responsibility of the US payor of freight.

When US Customs requires an intensive inspection loads must be switched to a facility where the units can be grounded. Once grounded the units must be unloaded by a stevedoring service to enable the required inspection. Beginning July 1,2013 the applicable charge of $585 per container or trailer will be assessed for stevedoring services.

UPRR Master Intermodal Transportation Agreement (MITA-2A) will be modified to reflect these charges effective July 1, 2013 and will apply for any shipment moving from Mexico via Laredo,TX wherein US Customs requires an intensive inspection.

Thank you for your commitment to Intermodal and the Union Pacific Railroad.

Sincerely,

Intermodal Business Team
