New Kansas City Terminal Begins Operations July 15

To Our Intermodal Customers:
Union Pacific has invested in a new multi-million dollar intermodal terminal in Kansas City, KS (KCIT) located at 1810 Bayard Avenue, Kansas City, KS 66105. As a result of this strategic investment, operations at our current facility located at 4801 Gardner Ave in Kansas City, MO 64120 will be consolidated into the KCIT operation on July 15, 2025.
KCIT enhancements include a 30% total throughput lift capacity increase with the ability to double capacity as demand warrants, superior highway access, additional working tracks for peak efficiency, and automation with Precision Gate Technology.
For your advanced planning:
- Last ingates at our current Kansas City Terminal for Southern California will be 21:00 CT Monday, July 14, 2025. Thereafter, all ingates should be directed to the new KCIT.
- Last ingates at our current Kansas City Terminal for Northern California, SLC, and the Pacific Northwest will be 19:00 CT Monday, July 14, 2025. Thereafter, all ingates should be directed to the new KCIT.
- Effective Monday, July 7, 2025, please begin waybilling shipments originating in the Pacific Northwest to the new KCIT facility.
- Effective Thursday, July 10, 2025, please begin waybilling shipments originating at all other locations to the new KCIT facility.
Current Kansas City Facility hours will be reduced starting July 18 through July 21 to 0800-1600. Our current Kansas City facility will be closed effective Monday, July 21, 2025 at 1600. Please outgate all boxes and bare chassis by Monday, July 21, 2025.
These changes will result in a positive customer experience through efficiency in drayage management, balance of assets, simplicity in logistics planning, and access to both domestic and international markets.
