Union Pacific Shuttle Program Changes and Upcoming Shuttle Auction Plan

Union Pacific will update commercial terms associated with the Grain Shuttle program as outlined in UP 1000, Attachment B: 

UP commitments 

  • UP trip commitments will be measured over a 60-day period from loaded waybill date for the shuttle. This change adds clarity and will replace the two consecutive month period.
  • Additionally, customer notification of a trip guarantee shortfall must be received within 60 days of the shortfall window to be considered for cancellation damage relief. 

Customer Commitments  

  • Cancellation damages for all new shuttle contracts, beginning with July 2025 shuttle starts will be updated as summarized below.
    • Annual shuttle train cancelation damages will be increased from $65,000 per month to $130,000 per month.
    • Six-month shuttle train cancellation damages will be increased from $100,000 per month to $130,00 per month.
    • Partial month proration methodology will not change; however, cancelation examples will be revised to reflect the new monthly damages.

Trip Incentives

  • Trip incentives will be retired for all new shuttle contracts, beginning with July 2025 shuttle starts.   

Union Pacific Shuttle Auction  

Union Pacific intends to offer shuttle capacity for the second half of 2025 in auction beginning on June 23, 2025. Below is a summary of shuttle capacity being offered by start month:

  • July – 2
  • August – 2
  • September – 13
  • October – 27
  • November – 2
  • December - 1
