Rail Operations Resume in Central Iowa and Phoenix Area

Announcement Number: CN2020-34
Categories: General Announcements
Posted Date: August 12, 2020

To Our Customers,

Our Engineering and Operating teams have made tremendous progress to the areas impacted by high winds in Iowa earlier this week and on the Tempe Town Lake Bridge in Phoenix, Arizona, that sustained damage on July 29. Following are the updates for the impacted areas.

Central Iowa
Service has been restored to both the Marshalltown and Cedar Rapids, Iowa areas earlier this afternoon. Customers with shipments moving through these areas should anticipate a minimum of 48-72 of additional transit time as we work to reduce the backlog of trains that have been holding in the area.

Tempe Town Lake Bridge
We are currently anticipating to reopen the bridge over Tempe Town Lake after midnight tonight. An embargo remains in place for the impacted area. Please see the AAR embargo page for additional details on affected shipments.

Customers with shipments moving through this area may experience up to four days in transit delays as we work off the current backlog of traffic. We are adding additional crews to deliver cars as quickly as possible once the bridge reopens.

We appreciate your patience as we worked to restore service to these critical areas. If you have any questions, please contact Customer Care & Support at 800-272-8777 or your Union Pacific representative.
