Derailment and High Winds Impacting Operations

Announcement Number: CN2021-17
Categories: General Announcements
Posted Date: February 22, 2021

To Our Customers,

A derailment southwest of Salt Lake City near Milford, Utah, is impacting operations. While we anticipate operations to resume this evening, customers with rail shipments moving through the impacted area may experience delays between 24 and 48 hours.

In southeastern Wyoming, high winds with gusts reaching 80-100 miles per hour are expected today and continuing through tomorrow, Tuesday, February 23, making it unsafe to operate between Cheyenne and Laramie, Wyoming. As a result, trains are currently being held between North Platte, Nebraska, and Green River, Wyoming, until it is safe to resume service. Customers with shipments moving through the impacted area can expect delays between 36 and 48 hours as we begin to work off the backlog of traffic once operations resume.

If you have any questions, please contact Customer Care & Support at 800-272-8777 or your Union Pacific representative.
