Central Iowa Bridge Repair Update

Announcement Number: CN2022-49
Categories: General Announcements
Posted Date: September 8, 2022

To Our Customers,

We continue to make progress at the derailment site just south of Mason City, Iowa. Our Engineering and Operating teams continue to work on the bridge rebuild, with key bridge materials expected onsite tomorrow. While we anticipate the route will reopen this weekend, there will be an expected backlog of traffic that will need to be worked off before we return to normal operations.

The following embargoes will remain effective after the main line has been restored, which will allow us to maintain fluidity as this segment of the network restarts.

  • Embargo UP093122 for interchange shipments at Superior, Wisconsin and St. Paul, Minnesota.
  • Embargo UP093222 for shipments originating or destined to rail stations located in the impacted area between Des Moines, Iowa and S. St. Paul, Minnesota.

A limited reroute plan is available to move shipments around the impacted area. Where reroutes are feasible, customers should anticipate between 48 and 72 hours of additional transit time.

We appreciate your patience as we safely work to restore service to this critical area. Please reference our Embargo page or the AAR Embargo System for additional details. If you have any questions, please contact Customer Care & Support at 800-272-8777 or your Union Pacific representative.
