Update on Accessorial Charges for 2023

Announcement Number: CN2022-63
Categories: General Announcements
Posted Date: November 1, 2022

To Our Customers,

Union Pacific is focused on providing reliable service to our customers. Our customers play a critical role by being prepared for service so that our crews can deliver and pick-up rail cars within customer facilities in a timely manner. Likewise, when improper billing instructions are provided to Union Pacific, there are delays in delivering your shipments to their intended destination.

We are making a change to the following accessorial charge beginning on January 1, 2023 and sharing several reminders, in order to deliver a more reliable service product for all of our customers.

Accessorial Tariff Charges Effective January 1, 2023

  • Carta Porte Document Delay Charges - $300 per car, per day. See our previous announcement on this new accessorial charge that aligns with the Mexican government regulations for additional information (UP 6004, Item 8530).

Current Accessorial Charge Reminders
When your facility requires a switch, the switch request should be submitted via our Shipment Management tool at MyUPRR.com (user ID and password required). By requesting the switch in advance, our crews have visibility to your request on their daily work schedule and are prepared to conduct the work upon arrival.

  • Intra-Plant Switches - $200 per occurrence (UP 6004, Item 9000).
  • Intra-Terminal / Inter-Terminal Switch - $515 per occurrence (UP 6004, Item 9000).
  • Not Prepared for Service - $400 per occurrence (UP 6004, Item 9055).
  • Equipment Without Proper Shipping Instructions - $400 per car. (Waybill Accuracy Tariff 6004, Item 35-H).

Thank you for your support of our goal to create a safer and more reliable rail network. By working mutually together, we can provide you with consistent first and last mile service. If you have any questions regarding the upcoming tariff changes, please contact your sales representative.
