Embargo Issued for Flooding and Washouts in California

Announcement Number: CN2023-18
Categories: General Announcements
Posted Date: March 14, 2023

To Our Customers,

The latest atmospheric river to hit northern California has resulted in flooding of our Watsonville rail yard as well as several track washouts between Watsonville and San Luis Obispo, California.

As a result of the impassable route, we have issued embargo UP011723 for all rail stations from Watsonville to San Luis Obispo.

Although we have begun to assess the damage and stage materials needed for the repairs, our track department will need the water to recede before we can begin making repairs. We estimate that it will be 48 to 72 hours before that occurs. We currently do not have an estimated time of reopening the line and lifting the embargo.

We appreciate your patience as we safely work to restore service to this critical area. Please reference our Embargo page or the AAR Embargo System for additional details. If you have any questions, please contact Customer Care & Support at 800-272-8777 or your Union Pacific representative.
