Domestic Service Between Los Angeles and Chicago: Temporary Use of Global 1

Announcement Number: IM2021-46
Categories: All Intermodal
Posted Date: March 4, 2021

Dear Premium Customers,

Following the polar vortex weather event in mid-February, Union Pacific has continued to experience instances of car and chassis imbalances, which have led to increased terminal dwell and also compromised our ability to provide consistent and reliable service. In order to restore fluidity to Chicago area terminals and correspondingly deliver reliable service, the following service adjustments will be made on a temporary basis.

Standard domestic shipments moving from Chicago Global 2 to City of Industry:

  • Ingates will be accepted at Global 2 until 15:30 CST, March 5, 2021. All waybills and shipments thereafter will only be accepted at Global 1.
  • Shipments will be accepted at Global 1 immediately.
  • Cutoff at Global 1 for shipments destined to City of Industry will be 22:00 CST.

Standard domestic shipments moving from Los Angeles or City of Industry to Chicago Global 2:

  • Shipments will begin notifying for outgate at Global 1 on March 5, 2021. Please monitor your shipments currently en route for notification at Global 1.
  • Please begin waybilling from Los Angeles and City of Industry to Global 1, effective immediately.

These changes do not apply to shipments moving between City of Industry and Global 4.

We appreciate your patience and cooperation as we work to restore fluidity to our Chicago area intermodal network as quickly as possible. If you have any questions, please contact your Union Pacific representative.

Sincerely,

Premium Marketing and Sales
