Inland Empire Intermodal Terminal Update

Posted Date: March 26, 2024

Dear Premium Customers,

As we recently announced, Union Pacific will soon offer service between its Chicago Global 2 terminal and its Inland Empire Intermodal Terminal (IEIT) in Southern California. This service will provide access from the Los Angeles Basin's busiest warehouse district direct to the heart of the Chicago metroplex, supplementing existing service between IEIT and Global 4. To make this happen, Union Pacific added incremental capacity to IEIT and is making this capacity available to our customers effective April 1, 2024. As a reminder, service between IEIT, Global 2 and Global 4 will be available to all domestic COFC shippers.

In addition to local service between IEIT and Chicago Global 2 and Global 4, Union Pacific will also extend its rubber tire interline services for IEIT to more than 20 destination markets on Norfolk Southern, CSX and Canadian National Railway. Also, please note that we have modified our IEIT to Global 2 schedules, and we are pleased to share revised transit times that are reduced by 24 hours for both our Priority and Standard intermodal services.

As Union Pacific continues its construction and expansion, beginning April 8, 2024, temporary gate operations will commence as follows:

  • Loads for ingate will drop off at 17550 Slover Ave., Fontana, CA (Tamarind Lot); this location is currently utilized for ingate and outgate operations.
  • Loads for outgate will be notified for pick up at 19700 Slover Ave., Bloomington, CA (Willow Lot).
  • Both the Tamarind and Willow Lots will be open 24 hours per day, seven days per week.
  • All empty EMP/UMAX equipment will be dropped off and picked up at the Willow Lot.
  • Signage will be posted at each terminal entrance to help assist drivers with this temporary process.

We are excited to offer service from IEIT to Global 4 and Global 2, as well as accompanying interline lanes, to support this key intermodal corridor.

Sincerely,
