To Our Customers,
Union Pacific is experiencing an increase in demand for EMP and UMAX domestic container capacity out of Northern California (Lathrop and Oakland ramps). It is anticipated that demand will increase further in the coming weeks. Action is being taken to reposition containers and increase train capacity to meet the needs of shippers.
In accordance with terms of the Mutual Commitment Program (MCP), UP is declaring Northern California a constrained market for aggregate shippers.
Beginning at 00:01 the week of Sunday, September 30, 2024, Union Pacific will apply the following surcharges for aggregate shipment volume above the surge allowance for each MCP Agreement out of the constrained market(s):
Aggregate MCP
Northern California: $300/shipment
We will continue to monitor demand in all markets and make changes to the list of constrained markets or surcharge amount with notice.
