Union Pacific Seeking CALEA Communications Reaccreditation

Omaha, Neb., October 12, 2020

Union Pacific's Response Management Communications Center (RMCC) is scheduled for assessment as part of a program to achieve international reaccreditation by verifying compliance with professional standards.

Administered by the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc. (CALEA), the accreditation program requires the RMCC to comply with state-of-the-art standards in four basic areas: policy and procedures, administration, operations, and support services. The process consists of five phases: enrollment, self-assessment, assessment, commission review and decision, and maintaining accreditation.

The RMCC was awarded Communications Center CALEA accreditation in 2013 and 2016 and is currently seeking its third accreditation. The RMCC is one of two communication centers accredited in the State of Nebraska.

Only 119 communication centers in the United States have earned CALEA Communications Accreditation. The UP Police was awarded Law Enforcement CALEA accreditation in 2014 and 2017 and will be seeking their third accreditation in 2021.

As part of the assessment phase, the general public and employees are invited to provide feedback about the RMCC via phone at 877-859-9008, Monday, Oct. 19, from 1-3 p.m. CT. Comments will be processed by the CALEA assessment team. Calls are limited to 10 minutes and must address the RMCC's abilities to comply with CALEA standards. Access to the standards is available through Union Pacific Railroad Headquarters, located at 1400 Douglas St, Omaha, NE 68179.

Written comments also will be accepted and can be sent to the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement, Inc., 13575 Heathcote Boulevard, Suite 320, Gainesville, VA 22030-2215 or email calea@calea.org.

CALEA was established in 1979 as a result of combined efforts of the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP), National Organization of Black Law Enforcement (NOBLE), National Sheriffs' Association (NSA) and the Police Executive Research Fund (PERF) to establish a law enforcement credentialing authority.
