Rail Operations Update

Announcement Number: CN2017-11
Categories: General Announcements
Posted Date: February 10, 2017

To Our Customers,

Warm temperatures combined with heavy rain have created a rapid snow melt effect in northern California and northwest Nevada causing rivers to flood and damage to our tracks. Our rail line between Elko, Nevada and Ogden, Utah remains out of service from the dam breach earlier this week. We expect that the rail segment from Elko to Wells, Nevada will be back in service around 10:00 p.m. PST today allowing us to reroute trains around the remaining out of service areas to minimize shipment delays. We will begin additional repairs as soon as the water recedes and we can safely access the other impacted areas. Customer shipments may experience delays between 24-48 hours.

Additionally, we are experiencing an outage between Oroville and Portola, California caused by the rain and rapid snow melt in the Sierra Nevada mountains. There are significant washouts along this line segment that we are currently inspecting. We are rerouting trains, however customers may experience delays between 24-48 hours.

We continue to experience delays between 24-48 hours in the Pacific Northwest due to heavy rain and snowfall in the area.

Thank you for your business and we appreciate your patience as we work to safely restore operations to these impacted areas. Please contact the National Customer Service Center or your Union Pacific representative with any questions.
