Western Region Operations Update

Announcement Number: CN2017-16
Categories: General Announcements
Posted Date: February 17, 2017

To Our Customers,

Our network continues to be impacted by various weather-related challenges that have occurred over the past week. We will continue to watch a series of storms that are forecasted to impact the western portion of our rail network, calling for heavy rain and snowfall through mid next week. We plan to monitor this weather system throughout the next several days.

Below is the latest update where we are experiencing delays and outages in our Western Region.

  • Roseville Yard - Due to all the outages we are experiencing, there is a backlog of trains to process through our Roseville Yard. Customers can expect delays of 48-72 hours on shipments that need to be processed through the yard.
  • I-5 Corridor - Trains are currently moving along this corridor; however, we continue to experience delays due to congestion between Chico and Stockton, California.
  • Stockton to Sacramento, California - Crews are continuing to work diligently to restore service and we anticipate reopening the corridor this weekend. Once this segment has opened, our ability to process trains will significantly improve at the Roseville Yard and through the I-5 Corridor.
  • Wells, Nevada to Ogden, Utah and Oroville, California to Winnemucca, Nevada - Both segments remain out of service. We anticipate reopening this segment late next week depending on storm impacts.

We appreciate your patience as we work to safely restore operations to these impacted areas. Please contact the National Customer Service Center or your Union Pacific representative with any questions.
