Update: Severe Weather and Flooding Continue to Impact Southern Region Operations

Announcement Number: CN2019-41
Categories: General Announcements
Posted Date: May 31, 2019

To Our Customers,

Severe weather, heavy rainfall and flooding continue to impact operations in Kansas, Missouri, Oklahoma and Arkansas, resulting in the following new, prolonged and expanded subdivision outages.

New Outages
  • Falls City Subdivision (at Atchison, Kansas, and Oreapolis, Nebraska)
  • Pinckneyville Subdivision (out of service near Chester, Missouri)
Continued Outages
  • River Subdivision (Kansas City to Jefferson City, Missouri)
  • Wagoner Subdivision (Coffeyville, Kansas, to Van Buren, Arkansas)
  • Cherokee Subdivision (Parsons, Kansas, to McAlester, Oklahoma)
  • Oklahoma City Subdivision (El Reno to Oklahoma City, Oklahoma) - We are expecting to open the Oklahoma City Subdivision this weekend.
  • Tulsa Subdivision (Tulsa to Muskogee, Oklahoma)
Expanded Outage
  • Van Buren Subdivision (Fort Smith to North Little Rock, Arkansas)
Closely Monitoring
Given the rising levels of the Arkansas River, outages are expected around Pine Bluff, Arkansas, and surrounding areas this weekend — possibly as early as this evening, May 31. We also anticipate these outages will add significant congestion around the Little Rock, Arkansas area, particularly impacting northbound and southbound traffic moving to and from Little Rock terminal. The congestion will likely cause service impacts throughout the area, even to customers not directly affected by flooding.

We are also closely monitoring the Sedalia Subdivision (Kansas City to Jefferson City, Missouri) due to high water levels and flooding conditions.

We have placed resources in strategic locations along our network to ensure outages are addressed and repaired as quickly as possible. Customers with shipments being routed around the affected areas can expect delays of 48 to 72 hours. We will provide updates as these routes reopen.
