Rail Operations Impacted Throughout Iowa

Announcement Number: CN2020-33
Categories: General Announcements
Posted Date: August 11, 2020

To Our Customers,

The powerful storms that moved through Nebraska, Iowa and Illinois yesterday with winds up to 100 miles per hour, have impacted our rail network in a number of locations.

The high winds caused significant debris across our main line and regional rail yards. Once the winds subsided last night, our Engineering and Operating teams began to clear debris where it was safe to access. There are a number of locations with large transmission lines down and we are working with local commercial power companies to restore power to the impacted areas.

As of this morning, the following areas in Iowa remain out of service:

  • Marshalltown
  • Cedar Rapids

Customers with shipments moving through these areas should anticipate a minimum of 24-48 hours of additional transit time as we work to restore operations. We appreciate your patience as we safely work to restore service. If you have any questions, please contact Customer Care & Support at 800-272-8777 or your Union Pacific representative.
