New Port Houston On-Dock Rail Service
Announcement Number: PR2023-61

Posted Date: May 30, 2023
To Our Intermodal Customers,
Beginning on June 1, 2023, we are launching service between the Barbours Cut Container Terminal at Port Houston to multiple metropolitan areas on our rail network. Ocean carriers and Beneficial Cargo Owners (BCO) will have more options to move their containers inland to Union Pacific-served markets. The on-dock operations at Port Houston streamlines containers from the ships, directly to flatcars, eliminating the need for a dray carrier to transfer the container to a separate intermodal facility. The on-dock operation saves time and will also contribute to lower greenhouse gas emissions.
We will offer import and export/empty options for the following Union Pacific intermodal facilities:
- Salt Lake City
- Los Angeles (ICTF)
- El Paso - Santa Teresa Intermodal Facility (STIR)
