Introducing Union Pacific's Latest Hazmat Response Training Tool

New Hazmat Training Car

Union Pacific and community first responders now have another tool in their hazmat training tool kit, thanks to new training cars made by employees at the railroad’s De Soto, Missouri, car shop.

The cars will help first responders and Union Pacific's hazmat response contractors learn how to properly enter tank car housings, test for leaks, make repairs and install emergency caps.

“Training equipment like this enhances safety for all while building relationships with our first responder community and regulators,” said Mark Lutz, assistant vice president-Fuel and Environmental Management, Supply Chain.

Thanks to Union Pacific's Hazmat and De Soto Car team members involved: Jerel Allen, manager-Mechanical Maintenance; David Call, manager-Mechanical Maintenance; Chip Heard Jr., senior manager-Hazardous Materials; Mark Newton, manager-Hazmat Management; Michael Oatman, senior manager-System Car Facility; and Lane Sekavec, senior manager-Hazardous Materials.
