Intermodal Terms and Conditions (ITC) to Replace Master Intermodal Transportation Agreement (MITA)

Announcement Number: IM2021-38
Categories: All Intermodal
Posted Date: February 23, 2021

Dear Premium Customer,

Union Pacific has recently taken steps toward simplifying our terms and conditions related to intermodal shipments. We are pleased to announce our new Intermodal Terms and Conditions (ITC), which will replace the former Master Intermodal Transportation Agreement (MITA). ITC is a streamlined document making our intermodal rules easier to navigate, use and understand. Effective May 1, 2021, the existing MITA document will expire and be replaced with the new ITC document.

The intent of simplifying ITC was not to change the substance of our rules, however there are a few minor changes noted below. There are no changes to existing accessorial charges with the implementation of ITC.

  • When submitting a claim for commodity loss or damage relating to shortage, customer must now include destination photos, along with the documentation of the application of seals or security devices at origin and actual loading and unloading record. Refer to ITC Section F.2.c.
  • Mexico clearance requirements for intermodal shipments have been moved from UP 6004 to ITC Attachment A, Section B.2. No charges associated with delays at the border have been changed.
  • Private chassis must be promptly removed from the intermodal terminal after train departure unless Union Pacific approval is otherwise received (ITC Section D.6). Prior MITA language stated private chassis must be removed within 24 hours.
  • Cosmetic goods have been added to the Restricted Articles extraordinary value item list in ITC Attachment B, Section B.2.i.

Customers subscribed to receive MITA updates will automatically be subscribed to receive ITC updates. Please contact your Union Pacific Sales Representative with any questions.

Sincerely,

Premium Business Team
