Update: Preparations for Tropical Storm Sally

Announcement Number: CN2020-48
Categories: General Announcements
Posted Date: September 14, 2020

To Our Customers,

We continue to monitor Tropical Storm Sally and expect it to become a low level hurricane late today, making landfall over the southeast coast of Louisiana on Tuesday.

In preparation for landfall, the city of New Orleans has closed floodgates preventing interchange with eastern carriers until further notice. Some trains are being rerouted through Memphis at this time.

Preparations are in place across our network to ensure any potential outages are addressed and repaired as quickly as possible. Plans are also in place to suspend local operations in the Avondale, Louisiana area as the storm passes through New Orleans. This includes the Avondale Intermodal Terminal and applies to inbound and outbound gate activity.

Customers should familiarize themselves with our Hurricane Planning and Recovery plan, which outlines best practices to follow during the hurricane season.

We will provide updates as this weather system progresses. If you have any questions, please contact Customer Care & Support at 800-272-8777 or your Union Pacific representative.
