La Porte Rail Park Environmental Controls
Noise
SLR Consulting, a market-leading acoustic consulting firm, performed a detailed acoustic study at the La Porte Rail Park site. SLR Consulting has more than 25 years of experience with noise models of similar multi-modal transportation / industrial facilities.
Acoustic Study Findings and Recommendations
- High-quality, solid sound barrier walls near the southern property boundary will provide significant noise reduction.
- Sound model results show that park operations will comply with the La Porte Noise Ordinance
- The maximum sound level at the south property line is expected to increase by 2.8 decibels.
- The maximum sound level at the northeast property line is expected to increase by 0.6 decibels.
- Most people consider a change of three decibels to be barely perceptible and a change of less than one decibel to be imperceptible
Light
- Specify dark sky-compliant fixtures
- Perform photometric analysis on the site to allow for best lighting solution
- Minimal illumination at the boundary of the site
- 100 foot wide forested buffer along the perimeter and sound walls will also provide supplemental shielding
Hazardous Materials
The following hazardous materials will be prohibited in the La Porte Rail Park:
- Asbestos
- Crude oil, natural gas, and synthetic gas (other than amounts required for general operations)
- Polychlorinated Biphenyls (PCBs)
- Radioactive materials
- Toxic gases
We also commit to following all environmental regulations and laws relevant to this site.
Dust
- This project will not have stabilized yards, which are the primary source of dust in industrial projects
- During construction, dust control measures will be implemented such as watering the site
- Site will only include concrete roads, no dirt roads
