La Porte Rail Park Traffic Management

Existing Cut-Through Truck Traffic Concerns

Current Issue

Property owners report that trucks frequently cut-through Lomax neighborhoods along the route dashed in orange when the existing at-grade rail crossing is temporarily closed to through traffic and rail gates are lowered.

Solution to Cut-Through Traffic: Bypass Road

The Project will explore a potential solution where truck traffic is routed through the main road of the Project when a train is passing through the railroad crossing and the crossing arms have been lowered.  This solution is expected to alleviate cut-through truck traffic passing through the adjacent neighborhoods.

Preliminary and subject to change

Battleground Road Corridor

Preliminary and subject to change

  • An initial Traffic Impact Analysis was completed by BGE.
  • The Traffic Impact Analysis concluded that a new traffic signal is warranted at Battleground Rd. and San Augustine St. at the entrance to the La Porte Rail Park.
  • Wait time at the westbound San Augustine St. at Battleground Rd. intersection will decrease from 68.2 seconds to 26.8 seconds during the afternoon peak with traffic signal mitigation.
  • Wait time at the P St. at Underwood Rd. intersection will only increase by 1.3 seconds during the morning peak and 1.6 seconds during the afternoon peak due to the project, which is hardly noticeable.
