Manager-Yard Operations Taton Griebel believes each day on the job with his Union Pacific team provides an opportunity to grow and become better – safer and more efficient.

"Every day is a new learning experience," Griebel said. "I'm grateful for the co-workers who've helped me gain knowledge throughout my career."

Griebel is well-versed in all things train crew. In early 2017, he hired on as a switchperson in North Platte, Nebraska's Bailey Yard. He's also held roles as a brakeperson, conductor and locomotive engineer.

In late 2021, the Heartland Service Unit welcomed Griebel to Topeka, Kansas, as a manager-Yard Operations.

"The move to Topeka is a great opportunity for me to learn more about railroading," Griebel said.

As an MYO, Griebel will switch between day and night shifts every few months. His responsibilities include leading and engaging 40 employees while promoting workplace safety and providing quality service to UP customers.

"I'm proud to work for a company that places an emphasis on safety and doing a job well," Griebel said.

Away from work, the father of four enjoys spending time with his family.

The Comstock, Nebraska, native grew up farming on a ranch near a small town of about 70 people. Now, Griebel is doing his best to support a small-town, care-for-your-neighbor mentality within his team's crew room.
