Photography and Drone Use Policies

Whether you're photographing trackside or filming with a drone, safety and compliance come first. Review the essential do’s and don’ts for capturing Union Pacific trains and property—so you can create responsibly and legally.

Stay off railroad tracks, trains and rail equipment and to stay out of rail yards. Violators are subject to a citation for trespassing on railroad property.

Capture with Care: Photography/ Videography Policy

Safety is paramount at Union Pacific Railroad. Adhere to the following guidelines when capturing images or videos of Union Pacific trains or structures:

  • Stay off Union Pacific Railroad property, including tracks, bridges, buildings, and signal towers.
  • Follow guidelines at passenger stations from Amtrak and Union Pacific's commuter partners.
  • Obey all safety rules, regulations, and instructions from law enforcement and Union Pacific employees.
  • Violators may receive citations for trespassing on railroad property.

Union Pacific will seek removal of any published photograph or video that violates this policy.

Fly Responsibly: Drone Policy

Unmanned aircraft systems (drones) flown for commercial or recreational purposes must adhere to the following:

  • Operate drones safely without distracting or endangering yourself, Union Pacific employees, equipment, or the public.
  • Comply with Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) regulations and safety guidelines to avoid civil fines or criminal action. Refer to FAA Drone Zone and applicable state/local laws.
  • Do not take off from or land on Union Pacific property.
