Safe Kids Worldwide is a nonprofit organization working to prevent childhood injury, the number one cause of death for children in the United States. Throughout the world, almost one million children die of an injury each year, and almost every one of these tragedies is preventable. Safe Kids works with an extensive network of more than 400 coalitions in the U.S. and with partners in more than 30 countries to reduce road and rail injuries, drownings, falls, burns, poisonings and more. Since 1988, Safe Kids has helped reduce the U.S. childhood death rate from unintentional injury by 60 percent. Working together, we can do much more for kids everywhere. Join the effort at www.safekids.org.

About Our Partnership

Union Pacific is committed to the safety and wellbeing of its employees and the communities within its operating footprint. That’s why the railroad is proud to partner with Safe Kids Worldwide through a multi-year, $3 million partnership.

"Safe Kids Worldwide and Union Pacific share a commitment to making communities safer for children and families across the United States,” said Rod Doerr, Union Pacific vice president and chief safety officer. “Our partnership allows us to reach more parents and families with this life-saving information."

Safe Kids coalitions conduct transportation safety education programs at Head Start centers nationwide regarding child pedestrian, school bus, bike, railroad and passenger safety. Thanks to Union Pacific funding, Safe Kids re-launched its Start Safe Travel Program in September 2018, providing grants to coalitions to teach parents and educators the safest ways to transport children, including how to prevent railroad-related injuries.

Start Safe Travel will soon feature a new children's book, Clifford and the Railroad Crossing, teaching kids about railroad safety in a fun and engaging way. Union Pacific and Safe Kids are working with Scholastic to create the book, scheduled to debut December 2018. The book will be available through Start Safe Travel Programs.
