After being struck by a car in 2018, Union Pacific’s Jason Boche, senior director-Corporate Strategy, didn’t know what his future would hold. Five years later, his commitment to cybersecurity and emerging technologies landed him among Progressive Railroading’s 2023 Rising Stars. The award recognizes up-and-coming talent in the railroading industry making an impact in their career.

“While my experience and recovery were long and challenging, I am forever grateful for how it shaped me as a leader and serves as a constant reminder that the most important things in life do not have deadlines and are not quantifiable,” Boche said.

What advice would you give to a new railroader? Think boldly and bring new ideas to the table.
What was your first job? I had a newspaper route growing up.
Share a fun fact about yourself. I took up beekeeping as a hobby several years ago and had over 20 hives at my peak.
