Hamann Paving the Way for Next Generation of Railroaders | LR

Jennifer Hamann, Union Pacific’s executive vice president and chief financial officer, was recognized by Railway Age magazine as one of its 2023 Women in Rail award recipients, honoring 23 women who excel at leadership, community involvement and driving industry change.

Hamann, Union Pacific’s first woman CFO, is a highly visible leader representing the railroad across the industry. She frequently represents Union Pacific at transportation and logistics conferences, advocating for both Union Pacific as well as the rail industry more broadly, providing education about the benefits of rail transportation for our stakeholders. Within Union Pacific, Hamann helps drive business decisions supporting the company’s strategic imperatives, including capital allocation that both supports safe railroad operations as well as growth opportunities.

Her 31-year railroad career has spanned multiple functions and leadership roles, including within Finance, Human Resources, and Marketing and Sales. She’s known for consistently seeking feedback and listening to employees across all levels of the organization, and then following up with action.

Hamann is highly engaged both inside and outside Union Pacific. She serves as the executive sponsor of the railroad’s LEAD (Lead, Educate, Achieve, Develop) women’s initiative and is a member of its executive advisory council. Along with serving as a member of Steel Dynamic’s Board of Directors and Audit committee, she’s on the Board of Directors for the Omaha Performing Arts Society Foundation Board and The College World Series of Omaha, Inc., and is a former member of the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City’s Economic Advisory Council.
