Following record-breaking amounts of rain in California, Union Pacific’s Engineering and Operating teams restored service Aug. 28, repairing track and bridges. The railroad took proactive measures prior to the storm to stage rail ballast and panels, electric generators and personnel in the impacted area.

As record-breaking amounts of rain hit the coast, Union Pacific’s Engineering and Operating teams safely and quickly repaired damaged track and bridges, and service was restored along the Yuma and Mojave subdivisions Aug. 23. Track work continues on the Lone Pine Subdivision as of Aug. 24. All three Union Pacific routes into the Los Angeles Basin were open by Aug. 25.
High winds and rainfall also reached the Gulf Coast Aug. 22 when Tropical Storm Harold made landfall in South Texas. Union Pacific continues to address a submerged five-mile stretch of track near Corpus Christi, Texas.
