Taking a moment to slow down and observe the surrounding environment makes all the difference when it comes to safety on the railroad. For Machine Operator Ivan Bradford, one choice led to an unforgettable lesson.
“There could’ve been a loss of life; I could have lost my life,” said Bradford, a Jefferson, Oklahoma, craft professional with six years of service. “From now on, I’m going to slow it back down.”
Bradford’s experience serves as a powerful reminder that accountability and vigilance are key to ensuring job safety. By sharing his story, he hopes to encourage other railroaders to be deliberate with every task, follow safety rules and talk through questions.
