Status of the Railroad - A Message from Kenny Rocker, EVP, Marketing & Sales

Announcement Number: CN2025-15

To Our Customers,

As summer winds down and the back-to-school season begins, August brings a sense of transition and fresh starts. Whether you’re squeezing in a final vacation, stocking up on school supplies, or – like me- welcoming two new four-legged family members into your home, this time of year reminds us of the importance of planning ahead and staying connected.

At Union Pacific, we’re embracing this spirit with exciting updates designed to make your shipping experience even more seamless. From the launch of My Portal to expanded intermodal services, we remain committed to delivering the reliable, forward-thinking solutions you expect.

Our Metrics
Service performance for the week ending August 22, 2025, continues to reflect the strength and reliability our customers expect from Union Pacific. These consistent results underscore the dedication of the entire team to deliver the service we sold you.

  • Freight Car Velocity – 226 miles per day
  • Train Velocity – 19.9 miles per hour
  • Terminal Dwell – 20.4 hours

New Domestic Intermodal Service
Union Pacific continues to invest and enhance our intermodal service product. Last month, we announced the following services further allowing Union Pacific to deliver consistent, reliable, truck-competitive transportation to you, our customers.

  • Los Angeles to Chicago – Starting next week, Union Pacific will offer three-day transit – 20% faster than current industry options. The expedited service connects the Inland Empire Intermodal Terminal (IEIT) in Southern California to the Global 2 Intermodal Terminal in the heart of Chicago.
  • Los Angeles to Kansas City - We are shifting our Kansas City (KCIT) domestic service from the ICTF terminal to the City of Industry terminal in Southern California. These units will now ride our expedited network, six days per week, offering up to 25 hours in savings versus comparable industry options.

Things to Note
Be Prepared for weather events to stay safe. We’ve seen flash flooding impact areas on our network and the 2025 hurricane season is projected to be above normal levels.

Industry Conferences are a valuable way to connect with the Union Pacific team and stay up to date on the rail topics that matter most to your business. Senior leaders will be present at upcoming meetings and look forward to engaging with you.

Thank You
Thank you for choosing Union Pacific as your transportation partner. Your trust and collaboration inspire us to keep innovating and improving every day. As we move into the final stretch of the year, we’re excited about the opportunities ahead and look forward to growing alongside you. Whether you’re gearing up for peak season or just trying to keep things running smoothly, we’re here to support your business every step of the way.

Sincerely,

Kenny Rocker
