Union Pacific Railroad and Lineage are building on a strong foundation as Lineage, a global leader in temperature-controlled logistics, breaks ground on a new cold-storage facility at Prime Pointe Industrial Park near Dallas.
The site is one of Union Pacific’s premier Focus Sites, offering rail-served access to a 3,000-acre development strategically located near four major interstate highways and three airports – ideal for distribution, warehousing and manufacturing. It serves as the latest example of how Union Pacific and Lineage are growing together to meet the evolving needs of the cold supply chain.
“We’re excited to welcome Lineage, a longtime partner of Union Pacific, to Prime Pointe,” said Kenny Rocker, Union Pacific executive vice president-Marketing and Sales. “Focus Sites like this make it easier and faster for businesses to connect to our 23-state network and tap into the efficiencies of rail.”
This groundbreaking represents more than just a new facility – it’s a continuation of a powerful partnership. Lineage’s cold-storage footprint with Union Pacific includes more than 40 rail-served sites across the Heartland, Texas, California and the Pacific Northwest. These locations help Lineage and its customers – some of the world’s largest food and beverage producers, retailers and distributors – move temperature-sensitive goods efficiently and sustainably.
Together, Union Pacific and Lineage offer robust capabilities in refrigerated transportation. Union Pacific maintains the largest refrigerated boxcar fleet in the industry, providing safe, cost-effective options for shippers. Its GPS-monitored and temperature-controlled reefer fleet offers up to 37% better thermal protection than refrigerated truck trailers. Plus, shippers can move goods more efficiently, with up to 59% more space in a single refrigerated boxcar – reducing costs and removing trucks from congested highways. Lineage complements this with its private fleet of more than 2,800 refrigerated and insulated boxcars.
“Lineage’s expansive network of rail-served cold storage facilities enables us to deliver dependable, scalable solutions for transporting perishable goods,” said Trent Vencil, manager-Sales, Union Pacific. “By leveraging our existing fleets of refrigerated boxcars, we provide customers with a cost-effective, sustainable alternative to traditional freight – reducing emissions and preserving product quality from origin to destination.”
Did you know? Using rail is the most environmentally responsible way to move goods over land, helping shippers reduce their own greenhouse gas emissions by up to 75%. If 25% of the truck traffic moving at least 750 miles was instead shipped by rail, annual GHG emissions would fall by approximately 13.1 million tons – the equivalent of taking 2.55 million cars off the highway or planting nearly 200 million trees.
