Union Pacific, Savage Partner to Deliver Rail Innovation in Utah

The Union Pacific team recently helped celebrate the grand opening of the Savage Tooele Railroad – Utah’s first new short line railroad in more than a century.

The short line will serve businesses in the Lakeview Business Park in Grantsville, Utah, one of Union Pacific’s 39 designated Focus Sites for economic and industrial development.

“This is a win-win as we work together to meet growing demand in Salt Lake City,” said Kenny Rocker, executive vice president-Marketing and Sales, Union Pacific Railroad. “Short line partnerships like this one with Savage Tooele Railroad allow us to deliver innovative rail solutions that help our customers connect to our premier network and get to market faster.”

The new 11-mile rail line was developed by Savage through a collaboration with Union Pacific, Prologis and The Romney Group. Shipments from the 1,700-acre business park – located near Union Pacific’s main line and Interstate 80 – are expected to begin this month.

Did you know? Union Pacific connects with approximately 180 regional short line railroads, extending our reach and bringing rail service to communities nationwide. These partnerships play a vital role in providing the first and last miles of a customer’s journey, helping us meet the transportation needs of our mutual customers.
