Union Pacific Helps Keep Soccer Fans Moving This Summer

Union Pacific Railroad worked closely with passenger rail partners during this summer’s international soccer tournament to help keep thousands of fans safely moving to and from matches across the network, including in California, Missouri, Texas and Washington.

In California, the Capitol Corridor Joint Powers Authority thanked Union Pacific for helping deliver an exceptional passenger experience during six matches in Santa Clara. With support from Union Pacific and Amtrak, Capitol Corridor carried more than 33,000 passengers on match days.

In Missouri, Union Pacific partnered with Amtrak and the Missouri Department of Transportation to support increased ridership on Missouri River Runner trains connecting St. Louis and Kansas City. More than 25,000 customers traveled through Kansas City Union Station across Amtrak services during the event, contributing to an 11% increase in ridership compared to the same period last year.

The tournament highlighted the close collaboration between freight railroads and passenger rail agencies, which work together every day to support safe, reliable transportation.

“Our partnerships with passenger rail agencies show what's possible when we work together to meet growing transportation needs,” said Katie Novak, general director-Interline Operations, Union Pacific. “We're proud to have helped provide a safe and positive experience for travelers attending one of the world's largest sporting events.”
