The Muldoon, Texas, Fire Department commended Union Pacific team members for their quick response and commitment to safety following a July 8 derailment. The two teams recently reunited during an appreciation luncheon sponsored by Union Pacific.

Continuous collaboration between the railroad and local volunteer first responders allowed emergency services to be uninterrupted following the derailment, which occurred in front of Muldoon’s main fire station.
Within a few hours, the main grade crossing was reopened, Muldoon Fire Chief Stephen Kelly said in a thank-you letter to the team.
“A derailment, even a minor one as this one was, is still a major event in a small town,” Kelly said. “From the very onset, every Union Pacific representative took each concern that we had seriously and did everything in their power to keep any inconveniences to a minimum.”
Kelly noted the team’s exemplary attitudes and concern for the community as instrumental in handling the incident.

“Cross-functional calls allowed us to all be on the same page and provide current information to the property owners and officials as needed,” said Mary McClarnon, Union Pacific senior manager-Risk Management. “Thank you to each Union Pacific team for their collaboration on this response.”
