Union Pacific employees joined together to raise almost $1 million for local United Way chapters and community nonprofits across the railroad’s 23-state system during its annual giving campaign – a longstanding tradition that’s raised more than $30 million over the past two decades.

“Union Pacific is a major force for good in the communities where we live and work,” said Rahul Jalali, executive vice president and chief information officer. “It was an honor to serve as this year’s campaign chair, working together with our team to build a stronger tomorrow for our neighbors – the positive impact we’re making is really awe-inspiring.”
Rallying Support at the Local Level
The railroad’s fundraising efforts start from the ground up, with local campaign coordinators charged with rallying support from their team members through creative events and incentives.

Systemwide work groups celebrated the 2023 United Way campaign with raffles, awareness events and fundraisers.
Risk Management coordinator Sara D’lima, senior director, connected with her field counterparts across the network with grab-and-go snack pick-ups in cities like Chicago and Roseville, California.
Law coordinators Brenda Frederick, senior paralegal, and Micki Zoucha, executive assistant, hosted sweet and salty treat events, including an ice cream social fundraiser and snack cart loaded with popcorn and soda.
Southern Region Operating coordinator Bobbi Johnson, senior director-Operations Support, Transportation, hosted a railroad-themed bingo tournament in Spring, Texas.
The Finance Department hosted its third ‘Finance Serves’ volunteerism event in partnership with United Way of the Midlands’ annual Day of Caring. The team dedicated more than 300 volunteer hours helping 13 community nonprofits tackle tasks that might have otherwise been unfulfilled, like preparing and serving meals, organizing pantries and storage spaces, garden clean-ups and more.

During United Way of the Midlands’ annual Day of Caring, Finance employees volunteered at Omaha nonprofits like City Sprouts, The Partnership 4 Kids, Heartland Equine Therapeutic Riding Academy (HETRA) and Nebraska Diaper Bank.
