Mutual Commitment Program August 2026 Update

To Our Valued Customers,

Union Pacific continues to experience an increase in demand for EMP and UMAX domestic containers across our network, which we greatly appreciate. Action is being taken to both unstack and reposition containers while also increasing train capacity, where applicable, to meet the needs of shippers.

To reflect the current value of our capacity, reliable service and our efforts to ensure container capacity is available across our network, we will be applying a surcharge above baseload volumes.

Beginning at 0001 on Sunday, August 23, 2026, shipments above baseload in the following markets will be subject to the following surcharges.

Aggregate Program 

• Los Angeles and Inland Empire - $1,000/shipment
• Northern California (Lathrop and Oakland) – $1,000/shipment

Mutual Commitment Program (MCP)

• Los Angeles and Inland Empire - Contact your Union Pacific sales representative
• Northern California (Lathrop and Oakland) - Contact your Union Pacific sales representative

We will continue to monitor demand in all markets and update the list of impacted markets and/or surcharge amount with notice.
