Union Pacific's famed Big Boy No. 4014, the world's largest operating steam locomotive, journeyed from coast-to-coast, celebrating America's 250th anniversary. Starting in the spring with a stop at the Central Pacific's Milepost Zero in Sacramento, the Big Boy made extended stops in Ogden, Omaha, West Chicago, Buffalo and Scranton before celebrating Independence Day in Philadelphia. On Big Boy's return trip to Cheyenne, the Big Boy made additional extended stops in Altoona, Pennsylvania; Fostoria, Ohio and St. Louis, Missouri.
