Union Pacific's Hazardous Materials Management group is a leader in hazardous material transportation safety, securement, and response. Federal law requires common carriers, like Union Pacific, to transport hazardous materials and railroads haul approximately 20% of the chemicals used in the United States. Railroads are the safest way to move the goods our customers produce and Americans use daily.
Union Pacific shares the same goals as our customers and the communities we serve -- to deliver every tank car safely while being prepared to respond in case of an accident. Each year, Union Pacific honors companies with its Pinnacle Award for their dedication to safely transporting chemicals by rail. The award honors customers who implement release prevention protocols, corrective action plans and have zero non-accident releases (NARs) of regulated hazardous materials shipments.
